The Project
For this project, I was required to create a publication for the Royal Botanic Garden's Annual Report (2021-22). The royal botanic gardens Victoria is an oasis founded in 1846, that runs across two sites, Melbourne, and Cranbourne. With an annual number of 1.5 million visitors, this tourist attraction has been enriched by plants, and iconic landscapes and wildlife for over 170 years. Expanding across 38 hectares, this fully sustainable organisation is made up of 8,500 species. This includes various garden beds, trees, and plants.
One of the key reasons the royal botanic gardens is so important, is its primary role it plays in the conservation of plants, through biodiversity research. Protecting up to 46% of Victoria’s rare plants through the Victorian conservation seedbank. This ongoing work is sustained through programs and education about how to protect endangered and rare plants.
Alongside the gardens living collections, plants, wildlife, and charm. The gardens also include local and international performances for visitors to see. As well as collaborative events, art festivals and exhibitions, NAIODC week and more for people to engage in.
The purpose was to design an aesthetic, yet functional publication about the Annual Report, for the Royal Botanic Gardens 2021-22. This should be easy for the reader to navigate, legible to read as well as exciting and intriguing to view. It should expose to the viewer, the stunning landscape of the garden, how it is fully sustainable, and the lively atmosphere of all of the events and festivals they have to offer, through bold colors and graphics.
